The following was passed to me by a friend. These were 2 Knife Attacks that happened over the weekend in 2 countries:
Tokyo – Joker Attack
Both incidents involved knives, but thankfully nobody has lost their lives. I am hoping that long term all the victims were able to make a fully recovery. I have seen that the police in Bristol and Tokyo are making arrests.
When I teach, we discuss the use of knives and how they are brilliant tools. They are easily used weapons as they require no training. If you are involved in a violent confrontation that involves a knife. Then there is something I need to tell you and it is a difficult thing to say to a student. You will get cut. Yep, you read that correctly. YOU. WILL. GET. CUT. It is not something I like to say to students, but I feel that I have to be honest.
We have been working through knife defences in the classes that are every Wednesday at Spirit Gymnastics, join now beat the rush! I also say to students that if you can create distance between you and the aggressor with the knife. Then do so. If you are not able to create space and you are not able to run away. Then don’t try and grab at the knife, you are more likely to cut your hands and do yourself more harm. Try and block the arm that is holding the weapon as best you can. It will give you a better chance of the stopping the weapon making contact with you. Which is the main aim. If you can kick the person away from you to create space. I would recommend doing so if you believe you can do it safely.
