This Story Came Across My News Feed (Link Here) This Morning Whilst I Was On A Break From Work. The Idea That Someone Would Spike Someone Else’s Drink Is Deplorable. To Actually Sneak Up On Them And Inject With A Syringe Filled With Who Knows What Makes Me Feel Physically Sick. Spiking By Injection Is Being Investigated By Two Police Forces. With One Person Having Tests For HIV.

It Is Difficult To Watch Every Angle When You Are In A Nightclub. This Is Why It Pays To Understand Personal Space, VIPER (See Below) And Understand The Basics Of The Fighting Arc. This May Help You Spot A Potential Threat And Act On It.

VIPER

V – Vibe – This is the general feel of the place, this could be a pub or a club. If something feels off, or the general atmosphere feels wrong then suggest moving on to a different place. Even if you have paid for the club. Wasting of a few pounds could be worth it in the long term.

I – Improvise – Think on your feet. Understand the layout of the club, note where the bouncers are and the way the people move around the venue. This could help you pick out any groups of people to avoid, due to the way they act or the way others interact with them.

P – Plan – From Experience of watching violence happen or even being a victim of violence. So plan a general escape route. This could also work if you have someone giving you attention that you don’t want. This could be interacting with a bouncer, how to perhaps lose them in the club if they start to follow you around or even how best to get the attention of the pub or club staff so you can make a safe exit, this could even be to head home.

E – Exit – Note at least two exits. This could even be a fire door. I have seen at least 2 incidents of people not getting into trouble with the venue as they have used the fire exit to escape from an uncomfortable situation. I would urge extreme caution, the majority of fire exits are alarmed and this will cause the fire alarm to activate and the club to be evacuated. This could cause a panic. That being said, if you are in an uncomfortable situation that you feel under extreme threat, then use that exit door.

R – Rear – Protect your back where you can. So you can see as many people as possible. This makes it less likely for someone to sneak up on you.

The Fighting Arc

If you are reading this sat down, stand up, no seriously. STAND UP. Now you are standing put your arms out in front out, palms facing each other. Slowly widen your arms to as wide as they will go. You will keep your hands in your eye line. Until a certain point, beyond that you will lose them out of your vision. This shows the fighting arc. This is the area that you want to keep people and makes it easier to spot potential threats.
